Our Team

Meet the facilitators who will guide you through Sacred Engagement. Among us, we bring decades of experience in psychology, mindfulness, and transformative learning.

Betsy Westendorf

In 1991, while working as a contract corporate trainer in management skills, I pursued a master’s degree in Applied Spiritual Psychology—an accredited program in California that aligned with my lifelong spiritual exploration and fascination with human behavior. Decades later, as I approached retirement, a request from my dying aunt to speak at her funeral about our shared academic journey sparked a shift in focus—from understanding how we work to exploring how we might live with greater ease and grace. Sacred Engagement emerged from that intersection of professional insight and spiritual inquiry, becoming a source of deep joy, peace, and purpose that I now share with heartfelt gratitude.

Drawing on careers in coaching, psychotherapy, and writing, I walk alongside people in the second half of life as a steady guide while they cultivate purpose, gratitude, and honest relationships. It’s down-to-earth work that turns insight into daily habits. When I stepped back from professional practice, I noticed my own focus blurring—the steadiness I’d relied on was fading—so I returned to core principles: daily attention, honest reflection, and compassionate discipline. From that inquiry, I co-created Sacred Engagement, a simple, practice-based way to align everyday actions with what matters. My aim is the same as ever: to support clarity without pretense, strengthen integrity in relationships and work, and help people live from presence rather than reactivity.

I’ve always been drawn to inner exploration—sometimes driven by the wish to be someone other than who I am. Over time, through meditation, Sacred Engagement, and ongoing learning, I’ve come to see that everything I need is already within me. While I don’t always remember that truth, the moments I do are transformative, bringing more joy, steadiness, and compassion into my life. Beyond this work, I’m a wife, a devoted cat-and-dog mom, and a former broadcaster, musician, editor, special events planner, and veterinary assistant. Now retired, I enjoy the simple pleasures of good coffee and long walks in the park. I’m genuinely excited to co-facilitate Sacred Engagement.

As a nurse, my work has centered on labor and delivery, lactation, and early parent-child relationships. Inwardly, I’ve been on a lifelong, evolving journey to understand the deeper purpose of my life. I bring a deep curiosity and joy to observing others—especially children—who often show us how to live more authentically. I believe the child within us still seeks connection and understanding. When we gently peel back the protective layers we've built, we find space for true connection. Sacred Engagement offers me that space, and I invite you to join me in this work—together growing a community rooted in authenticity and mutual discovery.

Lance Colwell

In early adulthood, I turned to spiritual teachings and self-reflection to better understand and heal from childhood experiences. Though meditation didn’t come easily at first, the values I discovered stayed with me through the years—as a biotech executive, a dad, and someone who’s always found joy in supporting others. Participating in the Sacred Engagement program—twice—was truly life-changing. I’ve become more present, a more generous listener, and have developed a regular meditation practice. While I still feel early in my journey, I’m deeply grateful for the friendships I’ve made and feel inspired to support others as we grow together.
